The Dumb Friends League helps to take care of more than 20,000 homeless pets each year. Donations from this Colorado tradition goes towards care provided by the DFL such as investigating cases of animal cruelty, medical care to sick or injured dogs, behavior training to help the animal’s adoption rates and more. The Dumb Friends League is one of the most widely known animal shelters in Colorado and for a good reason too; they go above and beyond. They can only continue to accomplish such great achievements if they can afford to do so; this is where this annual walk comes to play.
You can help by joining and attending the walk as an individual, starting or joining a team with you and other friends or family and working together to raise funds, or simply make a donation. Even small donations can be a big help!
If you choose to register whether as a team or as an individual you will pay $50 ($25 if you are a kiddo) along which you will receive a t-shirt. Then on the day of, you will do the walk in Wash Park (duh) and of course bring your doggy if you choose (I’ll be bringing Miss Petie, It’d be farrrr to stressful of a place to bring Laverne).
Then afterwards you can enjoy refreshments, contests, demos, and the “Flea-Less Market” (kudos to them for the oh so fabulously corny pun) provided by the 150+ pet related sponsors and vendors. If that doesn’t sound like fun to you, I don’t even want to know you!
You can even register as the “Lazy Dog” or, “Cat Nap” where you pay the same price and get the same shirt but all you have to do is sit back at home with your tea and Netflix and let the good karma roll in… Perfect if you want to help but would sooner gnaw your own leg off than be in a mass crowd.
It’s gonna be super fun, it’s for a good cause so you may even get some warm fuzzies inside for being a good person, and I’ll be there so maybe we’ll run into each other and you can experience how awkward I am in real life! Yay!

This was my first time experiencing the Furry Scurry and I must say I wish I had known about it sooner!
It was a lovely day of friendly people, lots of vendors and helpful resources, fun doggy obstacle courses and contests, food trucks, a stroll around the park being the two mile walk portion of the day and of course lots and lots and lots of doggies. Too many doggies for my heart to handle.
It was a great day; I went home with too many shirts because I have a hard time arguing myself out of buying a new shirt when it doesn’t support a charity or a small business, so when those are involved there is just no arguing. And Madison went home with a new puppy because there is just no arguing yourself out of buying an 8-week-old Labradoodle. You heard me, Wheezy has a little brother!
They had all sorts of dogs runnin’ around that were up for adoption and even kitties in their adoption bus. It was a great way to find some great pets a forever home and we had a feeling one of those dogs would be leaving the park with us from the second we saw them.
As of now team Adventures With Rover has raised $480 and the Furry Scurry in total has raised $682,078 and it’s not too late to keep the love flowin’! You still have till June 1st to help make a difference.
Whether I saw you this year or not I hope you get a clue and I see you at Furry Scurry 2016. Next year I plan on going hard so get mentally prepared for that.
Thanks again to my beautiful teammates and to those of you who have donated so far!
