If I had to describe this walk with one word, I would choose, “sufficient”.
I discovered the Jim Baker Reservoir in Arvada through dog sitting, as I discover a lot of hidden urban walks. It’s within walking distance from the job house and it’s where I’ve been walking the dogs.
It’s a 1.5 mile loop around the lake and takes 30-40 minutes to walk. On this walk you will see a lake (shocking, I know), a large chunk of the trail in which has not much vegetation, another part of the walk with a good amount of
That got so much more out of hand that I intended. I just really want a boat.
The lake has quite a few entrances and can get pretty busy at times with all the nearby neighborhood walkers like myself and the few other people who know about it. I have a friend that has lived near it her whole life and said she never even knew it existed. So I decided to add it to the site for anyone else who may be like her, because it is worth knowing about if you live nearby.
For this job I am walking with Kona a Chihuahua mix and Emma an American Bulldog (who happens to look more like a pitbull). When we pass other people who have dogs they will pull their dogs waaaay back and patiently wait for us to pass by from lightyears away with what appears to be fear in their eyes. (Insert an infinite amount of unamused faces.)
The owners warned me that strangers get concerned about Emma because they think she is a Pitbull, but this is just ridiculous. There is no need to essentially in run the other direction. First off Emma is the sweetest dog, the worst she would do its snuggle you to death. I would be concerned about Kona before I’d ever even be concerned about Emma, and Kona’s not mean either! He can just sound scary when he growls. That’s about as bad as it gets. Second, Emma’s not even a Pitbull so everyone just calm down. And third even if she was, it doesn’t mean she’s gonna be an asshole.
Let me break down for you the way dog temperament works. Owner is an asshole and raises dog to be an asshole the dog will be an asshole. Owner is great and trains dog and loves dog, dog will be great. Breed has nothing to do it.
So to my friends who runaway from me on this walk…. Just calm down, and let’s go about our lives like normal human beings so maybe I don’t feel like a leper when we go on walks.
I really feel this walk is only worth the trip if you live 5 maaaayyybbeee 10 minutes away and your tired of your usual routine. It’s no epic adventure but it does make for a pleasant stroll and it sure as hell beats your run of the mill neighborhood walk.
