This new harness is actually made by GoPro, and since I need a harness for a GoPro it only felt appropriate I give it a go…pro. Ha. I couldn’t resist.
I have very much a love hate relationship with this harness. When actually using it I sometimes want to set it on fire. But then when I see the footage I’m a happy camper.
I like ending things on a happy note, so lets start with the reasons I sometimes want to commit arson to it.
My number one issue is that I can’t attach my leash to it. GoPro. Come on. This doesn’t even make sense. If I put the leash on her collar a. you frequently see the leash in the footage and b. some dogs need a harness on because they pull too hard and choke themselves or because they are little escape artists and easily slip out of their collars. Lastly, off leashing is not always an option so even that is not realistic.
Granted their box does say on the back, “not intended for walking or restraining dog”. (Which I didn’t even notice till recently, I’ve got to start actually reading things.) What? That is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard of. Why the hell would you intentionally make a harness you can’t walk your dog with? That’s what harnesses are for dummies! AND charge $60?! Stupid. GoPro, you’re lucky I had a coupon and bought it on impulse or I wouldn’t have even entertained the idea of a harness that doesn’t do the one thing a harness is meant for. (Even if I am still glad I have it…)
Bottom line is you can tell GoPro has no idea what they’re doing when it comes to dog products, if they had team worked the design with a name dog brand like Kong or something that would have been ideal.
Now I know based off of what we just covered it would appear I hate this harness. Oh contraire mon frère. Although I absolutely HATE that you can’t attach your leash to it, luckily for me Laverne’s not a huge puller and seeing the leashing occasionally in the shot isn’t earth shattering. So for my circumstances the harness still works. It could be better, but it works. However if your dog NEEDS a harness and you want to use it on walks and hikes, look elsewhere.
Above all my favorite part of the harness it the view and stability it provides the GoPro with. The mount raises the harness high enough that you can still see the head for that added charm, but it also doesn’t get in the way of the shot. The stability is a refreshing change too. Obviously it’s still gonna flop around as it’s on a freaking dog, but it’s an improvement from the roller coaster that the Kurgo harness puts you through.
My final thoughts are, even though getting the footage with this harness is a pain, you can’t argue with the final product.
Amazon (supposedly you can get it for $38 here it almost seems too good to be true...)
Why did I list two site's that have it for the same price you ask? I don't know man, maybe you are biased towards one. I just like to give the people options.
