We went to the Forsberg Iron Spring Dog Park. Yet again, I had no idea what the actual name of this park was until this moment when I googled it. I had always just referred to it as, “that one dog park on Alameda.”
I’ve been to this park several times for the strict reason of it’s super close by and to be completely honest, there’s not too much to say about it. It’s not bad, just fairly uneventful. It’s maaaybeee 3-4 acres… granted I have horrible spacial configuration. The point is, it’s pretty small in comparison to the other parks we’ve ventured to, but it works.
The only thing that really sets it apart is the little agility course at the bottom of the hill. The equipment is a tad old and ghetto but it works fine and it’s fun to give it a go with your pup.
There is also a paved trail that goes around the dog park that is not fenced and you are told to leash through there. It’s a pretty decent, brief stroll. I like taking a walk through the trail before I go in the actual dog park area if I’m taking a super high energy dog to maybe burn a tad bit of fuel before we go in so it doesn’t completely accost the other dogs right when we walk in.
The park is divided into two neighboring parts. They are both pretty sloppy but the one on the right is sloppier. Another thing to note is for some reason the one on the left always has more people.
I was curious how Petie would do with out Laverne and her anxious energy towards other dogs, and it turned out it wasn’t too shabby. She glued to my ankles for the most part but every now and then she’d get ballsy and go explore in front of us.
When dogs approached her she was actually pretty excited… Unless they were bigger than her and more hyper, then she would kind of armadillo at our feet. She also wasn’t exactly down to play with the other dogs but I can’t blame her, she’s going to be 9 years old this month! Even though she didn’t want to run and play with the other dogs she still seemed like quite the happy camper.
At the end of the day I’d say if you’re looking for something different and adventurous I’d say look elsewhere. Buuuut if you’re looking for something close, convenient, and to have your pup burn off some energy and make some friends then this is your place.
