It’s ideal for walks and hikes and what not as it’s small and compact when its collapsed so it fits nicely in your backpack. It also has a carabiner (most at the very least have a place you could hook one too if it doesn’t already come with one) and I clip it on their leash or my backpack. It’s perfection.
In the past I would just bring them their own water bottle with a wide mouth so they could just drink right out of the bottle. This worked fine till the water started running low and their tongues couldn’t reach it. (Even holding the bottle at an angle would only help the case for so long.)
It was also a pain in the butt because it meant lugging around two water bottles, one for me and one for the pups. Although I’ve seen people share their water bottle with their dog, which is horrifically gnarly. I love my dogs but that is just wrong on so many levels.
Now I can just squirt some of the water from my camel back into the bowl and boom it’s that easy. No more lugging around multiple bottles or swapping spit with my (literally) butt licking dogs. And if that’s not worth celebrating I don’t know what is.
Mine is a sturdy silicone material that I strongly prefer over the foldable fabric ones. Those ones feel to loosy goosy for my taste. The size of mine is perfect for my medium and small sized dogs to take turns using on adventures (it’s about 4in. in diameter.) If you have a massive dog I’d probably try to finder a larger version, which does in fact exist so don’t you worry.
I got mine from TJmaxx which if you are familiar with their stores you know their products come and go so I probably wouldn't plan on getting yours from their stores unless you happen to fall upon one there.
However Petco has one that looks practically identical to mine with the exception that it’s diameter is about 2in. bigger. Theirs runs for about $10 although it’s been on sale the past few times I’ve come across it.
You shouldn’t have any problem finding other similar variations. I’ve seen some at Walmart, Petsmart, Target, on Amazon, they’re all over. All the ones I’ve come across vary form $5 to $10 making them super affordable.
You’d be crazy not to invest in one of these babies.
