For this adventure we went on the nature walk around the lake.
From my understanding the trail is about 1.2 miles and it took us about 30 minutes, making it good for a quick walk right in town. Although it’s right in the middle of Lakewood this trail feels pretty secluded.
The trail is dirt, which made for an absolute train wreck the day we went which happened to be after a few warm days in March which led to a lot of snow melt. To say the whole North and West side was muddy would be an understatement.
The mud was so thick it was like quick sand eating my shoe, there were a few areas of the trail that were flooded over, it felt like we were running the mud run. On the bright side the dogs seemed to love it! It just made for some very muddy car seats…
So my advice is avoid this trail if there is any chance of excessive water and mud.
When you don’t need Noah’s Arc to make your way through the trail it's actually a beautiful little adventure. There are trees, the lake of course, flocks of geese and ducks that really excites the dogs, side trails that lead you to decks over the water, ponds, horse trails, gazebos, we even heard some strange sounding birds which gave me some serious spring fever.
There’s also this giant gazebo meets deck type thing (I have not idea what that kind of structure is called, don’t judge me) that goes over a pond and partially over the lake. It is quite lovely.
Needless to say the pups where thrilled.
It was a beautiful day making for a crowded park. There were dogs and people everywhere making Laverne a very anxious dog… More anxious than usual. So if your dog is like Laverne and is a Nervous Nelly around dogs and people this may not be a great adventure for you.
Like all parks and walks the popularity depends on the weather and time of day/week but I will say I almost always see people walking their dogs or jogging when I drive past so it’s safe to say it’s a popular spot.
So if you’re looking for a quick and easy walk right in town while still enjoying some nature and you don’t mind the company of other adventurers around you then you and your pup will love this trail!
